Sid is sitting with a thick text book,  hands on his head, trying to comprehend what he is going to do, with so much to do and so little progress in his studies. His recent results do not have much to speak about. His teachers don’t have much expectations from him, but that he sits in the class without getting distracted and distracting other students. His parents have high expectations of him, and he carries the burden of living up to their expectations semester after semester, without a ray of hope. Their constant nagging to study makes him find excuses, try to find ways to keep away from studies, and many times he finds himself having to sit staring at his book like he is currently doing.

His childhood pal Vic is on the other hand is doing quite well. He is enthusiastic about his studies, is active and attentive during class, he is able to comprehend all of his subjects and it shows in his results. He is one of the top students in the class. While Sid and Vic spend good time together during their play time, the two are on their own different paths when it comes to academics. Sid often shares his dilemmas with Vic about his struggles with studies, and Vic tries to guide his friend. Sid has tried following Vic’s advice, but hasn’t seen much of success.

For improving his scores, Sid’s parents have enrolled him in a good tuition class. There are some signs of improvement, but Sid still has miles to go. The only respite that Sid has is that his friends  accept him the way he is. Some of them face similar realities like Sid and they empathise with each other. Vic on the other hand is also part of this circle of colleagues who fare well. To Sid and his friends, the  discussions, jokes and all the books that this circle find fun and happening, are geeky and outright boring. Sid often chides Vic about it by saying that he is part of the ‘Test Re-test’ group and Vic is part of the ‘Best Test’ group. The only reading that Sid enjoys are comic books from the nearby book store, where he gets the reused ones for a good deal using some of his pocket money.

The story goes on. One fine day, Sid is at the book store when his eyes fall on an old, soiled book – ‘My Better, Best, Bestest Journeys’ in one corner of the store. Sid finds an uncanny resemblance of the book title with Vic’s ‘Best Test’ group. What a coincidence says Sid to himself. That day he decides to pick up this book instead of a comic. What is the book about, who wrote it, what is this Bestest Journey about are the questions going on in Sid’s mind.

Sid gets home, gets fresh, takes out the book from his bag and opens it. The first page reads – I write this for you, to help you on your academic journey to excel and reach your full potential. No matter what is your background, where you come from, how good you are at studies, what your scores are today. In this book I write about my journey that will help you in your academic journey –  from being one of the rest, to becoming one of the best. Good Luck.
